New 5Spice Users recommend downloading Diodes Incorporated's Spice Model Library file to add more discrete devices to the Library (first upgrade to 5Spice v1.61 or newer to avoid problem). Download International Rectifier file for power MOSFETs.
Place these files and any others that should be linked to the Diode, BJT(transistor), FET(all types), IGBT, SCR and TRIAC schematic symbols in Library subdirectories: Library\Diode_BJT_FET\{name of company}
Place all other files in subdirectories: Library\Subcircuits\{name of company} You may add as many subdirectories as you want.
Library Location If using 5Spice v1.40 or later, see main menu TOOLS | REBUILD LIBRARY to find where the Library is located on your computer.

Searching for Models but don't know the manufacturer?
- If looking for 2N2222,
go to www.Google.com and search for 2N2222 spice or 2N2222 model
- or try searching the outdated INDEX site.

INDEX by part number many of the links at INDEX are outdated, so not very useful. Check the revision date at the top of the INDEX page to see if it has been updated recently. Not part of the 5Spice website. ~20000 parts, with links to manufacturer's website
Analog Devices search for a specific model or click on the product category you want. Or download all models in single file.
If you experience "singular matrix" error using an AD model, download 5Spice v1.60 or higher. ADAxxxx opamp subcircuits have non-standard node order. Correct in the model file.
APEX (Cirrus Logic) Spice models - Linear Amplifiers. Hybrid opamps that run on 50-300v power supplies or deliver >5 amps. NOTE: these opamps do not match the default pinout of the 5Spice opamp symbol. Edit the symbol and re-name the pins.
CoilCraft inductors
Diodes Incorporated signal, power, zener diodes. BJT, small power MOSFETs. Model files now include former Zetex models as well.
All Models in Single File DO NOT download all models in a single file unless you are using 5Spice v1.61 or higher - this file contains errors and will cause 5Spice's Library Rebuild to freeze. Instead download the model files for the desired device types.
ZENER models: the zener diode file and the All-In-One file are missing the .ENDS line at the end of many subcircuits. If you are not using 5Spice v1.61 or higher, you must add the missing .ENDS lines manually or the subcircuits will not appear in the 5Spice selection list. Other Spices may also need the missing .ENDS lines added.
MOSFET models: the Diode Inc. MOSFET models do not include the drain to source diode that all power MOSFETs have - use the included Zetex MOSFET models instead.
Fairchild discrete devices. Click on entry in "Condition" column in device list to request model. MOSFET models: 3 node models require 5Spice v1.60 or higher. 4-5 node models have various types of thermal modeling. Place the model in the Library's Subcircuit section and use 5Spice's rectangular subcircuit symbol in the schematic. See the Fairchild site for information/support on using thermal modeling.
IGBT models: Some only work with PSpice and will not show in the 5Spice selection list. Logic devices: HSpice models won't work - they are encrypted in HSpice proprietary format.
Ferrite Bead PDF file download. page 6 shows subcircuit for lossy bead, graphs on page 2. The peak impedance is about 90% of the value of R4. Let us know if you find the way to change the center frequency of the impedance curve.
General Semiconductor TransZorbs, diodes. note: most diode models are included with 5Spice. Company has been bought by Vishay.
KEMET Download and install the KEMET Spice program to get their capacitor models. Run their program and select the capacitor you want. Move the graph cursor to the frequency you want the model to represent - you can lock the cursor by right clicking the mouse. Then go to the menu, select "MonitorXY", then select "Model Display". Press the Output List button and save the model file to the Subcircuits area of the 5Spice Library.
Note: many file saves cause the KEMET program to show a confusing error message indicating a bad character in the name. The fix is to shorten the file name, then save.
International Rectifier all models in single file
Infineon caution: subcircuits for MOSFET devices starting with letters BS... (formerly Siemens SIPMOS) do not use standard node order. User must change node order on .Subckt line to be drain, gate, source. Find subcircuit libraries at bottom of product pages.
Intersil
Linear Technology all models in single file. 5Spice prior to v1.60: crash bug: LTC1250, LT1168_IN, LT1168_OUT contain diode models with parameter EG set to a negative value. 5Spice v1.60 and other Spices warn user and set value to 0.1, far from normal 0.6.
Maxim 5Spice prior to v1.30 and some other Spice simulators: crash bug: Low supply voltage Maxim opamp subcircuits containing diode models with parameter N=0.1m (=1e-4, Spice default is 1.0). 5Spice v1.60 improves simulation with these subcircuits.
MicroChip opamps and MOSFET drivers
National Semiconductor individual model downloads
convenient library of National op amp models Spice44.zip, not National site so may be older.
NEC Electronics discrete semiconductors
NXP (Philips) discrete semiconductors. Ignore logic IC models, not 5Spice compatible.
trouble with recent bipolar transistor models? example: PBHV9040T and others. Open the model file and look at the drawing where they define numbers for a SOT23 package. Spice doesn't use packages or pin numbers, it uses circuit node numbers. You need to re-order the node numbers on the .SUBCKT line so they correspond to the standard Spice order: collector, base, emitter. Also re-order the nodes on the Q1 line. On the Q1 line, check that the node numbers actually connect to the package inductances - if not, then change them so they do. Or just send NXP an email asking them to fix this.
caution: for 5Spice prior to v1.30 and Spice3 in general, PSpice power MOSFET models require removing the "IS=0" parameter from the NMOS .MODEL lines to prevent crash.
ON Semiconductor large selection of Discrete and Power Control/Management ICs. Ignore the Logic model downloads, they are not Spice models.
Download the Spice3 (.SP3) or PSpice (.LIB) models. Do not use the Saber (.SIN) or Spice2 (.SP2) models.
Rohm discrete semiconductors
STMicroelectronics MOSFETs, diodes, op amps. See box labeled Support, select "Simulation and Development Tools".
Supertex inc. has some ancient models for small power MOSFETs like 2N7002. Problem is the models don't include the drain to source diode that all power MOSFETs have. Avoid - use the Zetex models instead.
switch-mode power supply models, book, links excellent book by C. Basso. Starting with v1.30, 5Spice includes some demo schematics and models from his 2008 book. Requires program registration to modify the model parameter values from the schematic.
switch mode application notes from a high end Spice vendor in large .PDF file
thermistor models models for standard NTC thermistors (right mouse click the link, select "save content as"). get parameter values from manufacturers' catalogs or websites.
Teccor (now LittleFuse) - lower power TRIACs, SCRs, thyristors. also varistors. Select thyristor or varisitor category to get a list of devices. Find your device in list. Click on "Technical Information / view more" link - a small window opens. Click on "Design Support" - if there is a model, you will see a PSpice model link. Download and unzip the file. Note: most of these devices do not have a model.
Important: the node/pin order of TRIAC and SCR subcircuits is not standardized in Spice. 5Spice includes symbols that work with the common node order, modify the .Subckt line for other node orders. See program's Help.
Texas Instruments download the PSpice models and the general models, not the TINA models. If link does not work, search site for "Spice models" and select first item in the search results.
Zip file names starting with SLU..., SLV..., SLIM... contain many non-library files and use encrypted models in the model (.LIB) file. Do not unzip these files in the Library. 5Spice cannot read PSpice encrypted models. To double check, open the .LIB file. If it does not start with "ENCRYPTED_LIB", you can add the file to the Library.
If the model file name ends in ".SUB" or ".TXT", change it to ".LIB".
THAT integrated circuits for audio applications
Tyco Electronics (formerly AMP) connectors. see "View Models" link in upper right corner of page.
vacuum tubes / valves tubes were 100 years old in 2004
Vishay keeps buying companies that make discrete devices, so has many discrete products formerly made by others. Select product category, then look for Spice under "Related Information" heading. Use the Spice3 or I-Spice models. caution: for 5Spice prior to v1.30 and Spice3 in general: some power MOSFET models require removing the "IS=0" parameter from the .MODEL lines to prevent crash in Spice3.
Zetex discrete devices. Zetex is now a part of Diodes Incorporated - see that link.
Tutorials on Spice and Circuit Design
eCircuit Center Use Spice to help learn circuit design - many example circuits with instruction for advanced students and professionals. Draw the schematic in 5Spice. Use 5Spice's Linear OpAmp in place of the opamp (.SUBCKT OpAmp) in these circuits. Component values and opamp's gain and pole frequency are in list at bottom of the page or listed in the circuit file you can download.
